The handwritten letter: make or break?

I dropped a couple of handwritten letters in the mail today to prospective clients.

As a technology company, this either says to them:

  • I will receive personal attention from this technology company: I don’t get this from other software companies.
  • This company is so small I’m receiving a wimpy little note.
  • This is a tech company: why didn’t I receive my own personalized YouTube video or electronic thank you card?

The letter itself will not be the deciding factor in their decision, but it either builds one of the above perceptions or destroys it.

What do you think?
